Temporary Accommodation & Temporary Rentals in Amsterdam Westerpark

Westerpark · Amsterdam West · Neighbourhood Guide

Westerpark is the neighbourhood that got everything right: a Victorian gasworks reborn as the Westergasfabriek culture park — cinema, breweries, festivals — the Haarlemmerdijk's award-winning shops running toward Centraal, and the Jordaan starting one bridge away. All of it wrapped around an actual park, which is more than most of central Amsterdam can say.

The market has noticed. As the Haarlemmerbuurt's cafés and boutiques spread west, rents here have climbed toward Jordaan levels — and private listings stay scarce for the simplest reason in property: almost nobody who lives in Westerpark leaves it voluntarily.

City Retreat provides temporary accommodation in Westerpark with a strict 2-month minimum stay. We do not offer weekend breaks or holiday rentals. Our serviced apartments in Amsterdam are built for corporate clients, tech professionals, and expats who need a proper base — not a hotel room with a checkout date looming.

Every apartment arrives fully furnished and ready to live in from day one. Whether your employer is relocating you or you are managing your own move, our flexible monthly rentals in Amsterdam remove the friction that makes this housing market so punishing for newcomers.

The Neighbourhood

Living in Westerpark: What to Expect

The Westergasfabriek culture park in Westerpark, Amsterdam, near City Retreat serviced apartments
The Westergasfabriek — an 1885 gasworks turned into cinemas, breweries and festival grounds, with the park flowing around it.

The gasworks that lit nineteenth-century Amsterdam shut down, sat derelict, and re-opened as the best adaptive-reuse project in the city: the Westergasfabriek, where the old purifier halls now hold the Het Ketelhuis cinema, Brouwerij Troost's tanks, restaurants and a rolling calendar of festivals and markets. The Westerpark itself flows around the buildings, then west into open green space that most residents treat as an extension of their living room.

The streets deliver the rest. The Haarlemmerdijk and Haarlemmerstraat — repeatedly voted the best shopping street in the Netherlands — run the neighbourhood's southern edge toward Centraal, all independent shops and no chains worth mentioning. North of the park, the Spaarndammerbuurt holds Het Schip, the Amsterdam School's brick masterpiece, and the GWL-terrein is an entirely car-free eco quarter. It is the Jordaan's calmer, greener neighbour — one canal over, half the noise.

Getting Around

Commuting from Westerpark

Westerpark sits closer to Centraal than most of the canal ring — ten minutes on foot down the Haarlemmerdijk — while tram 5 from the Westergasfabriek runs directly to Leidseplein, Museumplein and Station Zuid for Zuidas without a change. Sloterdijk station on the western edge adds fast trains to Schiphol and the rest of the country.

Destination Route Time
Amsterdam Centraal Walk or bike via the Haarlemmerdijk ~10 min
The Jordaan Walk across one bridge ~5 min
Zuidas (business district) Tram 5 direct to Station Zuid ~25 min

Leidseplein Tram 5 ~15 min

💡 Registration Matters More Than You Think

Your BSN (citizen service number) unlocks Dutch banking, healthcare and payroll — and you can only get one after registering at a valid residential address. Every City Retreat apartment in Westerpark supports municipal registration from day one. See our BSN registration guide for the full process.

Housing

Corporate and Expat Housing in Westerpark

Fully furnished serviced apartment interior with workspace in Westerpark, Amsterdam
Park on one side, the Jordaan on the other — fully furnished and ready for registration from day one.

Westerpark housing runs from nineteenth-century apartments in the Staatsliedenbuurt and Frederik Hendrikbuurt to the Spaarndammerbuurt's Amsterdam School brickwork and modern stock around the GWL. Our expat rentals in Amsterdam here are a natural fit for the creative and media professionals who work in the Westergas offices — and for anyone who wants the Jordaan's location with a park and a lower blood pressure.

Corporate accommodation in Amsterdam should reduce admin, not create it — so everything below comes as standard, on one monthly invoice.

💡

All-Inclusive Utilities

Energy, water, high-speed internet and municipal charges bundled into one predictable monthly invoice — simple for expense reporting and corporate housing budgets.

🛋️

Furnished Workspaces

A proper desk, comfortable chair and fast Wi-Fi in every apartment, so remote and hybrid work starts on arrival day, not after a trip to a furniture store.

📋

BSN Registration

Our properties permit municipal registration — which you will need for your BSN, Dutch banking and payroll. Many rentals in Amsterdam quietly don't allow this. Ours do.

Why Mid-Term

Why a 2-Month Minimum Works in Your Favour

Short-term holiday rentals in Amsterdam are heavily restricted, priced by the night, and almost never allow registration. Hotels solve none of this for a three-month project or a phased relocation. Mid-term serviced rentals sit in the practical middle:

City Retreat
mid-term rental
Hotel /
aparthotel
Holiday
let
Stay length 2 months + Per night Days, capped by law
BSN / municipal registration Permitted Not possible Not possible
Bills & Wi-Fi included One invoice But nightly-priced Varies
Dedicated workspace In every apartment Rarely Rarely
Kitchen & laundry Full-size Limited Usually
Monthly cost logic Monthly rate, −10% at 4+ months Nightly rate × 30 Nightly rate + fees

From two months upwards you get better value than nightly pricing, a landlord relationship that operates on Dutch tenancy standards, and an address you can register at. It is why relocation agents and global mobility teams book with us instead of joining the queue for private listings.

Common Questions

Westerpark Rentals: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum stay for your Westerpark apartments?

Two months, strictly. We are a mid-term provider of temporary accommodation in Amsterdam — we do not accept weekend or holiday bookings, which keeps our buildings quiet and our neighbours happy.

Can I register at the address and get a BSN?

Yes. Municipal registration is permitted at our Westerpark properties. You will need it for your BSN (citizen service number), which in turn unlocks Dutch banking, payroll, healthcare and most contracts.

What is included in the monthly rent?

Everything you need to live and work: full furnishing, energy, water, high-speed internet, municipal charges and a dedicated workspace — on a single monthly invoice.

How does Westerpark compare to the Jordaan?

They are neighbours — one bridge apart — and share the same independent-shop, brown-café character. The Jordaan gives you the canals and the postcard; Westerpark gives you an actual park, the Westergas culture programme, and slightly more apartment for the money. City Retreat has apartments in both.

How well connected is Westerpark for commuting?

Amsterdam Centraal is around ten minutes on foot or by bike via the Haarlemmerdijk, tram 5 runs directly from the Westergasfabriek to Station Zuid for Zuidas in about 25 minutes, and trains from Sloterdijk make Schiphol roughly 25 minutes door to door.

Do longer stays cost less?

Yes — stays of four months or more receive a 10% discount, and check-ins between November and February qualify for an additional winter discount. Both are shown on each listing.
