The Basics

What Is Corporate Housing in Amsterdam?

Corporate housing is fully furnished, self-contained accommodation arranged for employees on assignment, relocation, or project-based contracts. Unlike a hotel, corporate housing gives your people a proper home — a real kitchen, a workspace, a living area, and a registered address — for as long as the assignment requires.

City Retreat has provided corporate housing in Amsterdam since 2012, working directly with HR teams, mobility managers and relocation agencies to make the process straightforward. We handle the accommodation side so your team can focus on the work.

Demand for this kind of flexible, ready-to-go accommodation has grown sharply as Amsterdam's rental market has tightened. As we cover in our look at why candidates are rejecting Amsterdam job offers, average rents reached €28.53/m² in Q1 2026 and the Netherlands has a housing shortage of around 410,000 homes — making it harder than ever for new arrivals to secure a private rental on their own. Corporate housing removes that uncertainty from day one.

The Real Picture

Corporate Housing vs Hotel vs Private Rental

For assignments longer than a few weeks, hotels stop making sense — financially and practically — and Amsterdam's private rental market is currently too competitive to rely on for a fast start date. Corporate housing gives your employee a real home environment from the outset, which research consistently links to better productivity, wellbeing and retention on assignment.

💼 Why BSN Registration Matters for Your Employee

The BSN (citizen service number) is required to open a Dutch bank account, access healthcare and complete payroll registration in the Netherlands. Employees staying in hotels or short-let platforms cannot register an address — which means they cannot obtain a BSN. City Retreat apartments support municipality registration from the first day of tenancy.

Corporate Housing Costs in Amsterdam

All City Retreat rates are all-inclusive — one figure covering rent, utilities, Wi-Fi, furnishings and linen. No hidden costs, no separate bills, no end-of-stay surprises. Straightforward to budget and straightforward to invoice.

1 Bedroom

📌 What Every Rate Includes

Electricity, water, gas, high-speed Wi-Fi, fully furnished interiors, kitchen equipment, bed linen and towels, a professional deep-clean before arrival, and ongoing maintenance support. Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can City Retreat invoice our company directly?

Yes. We invoice directly to your company, mobility provider or relocation agency — whichever arrangement suits your process. We can accommodate different invoicing structures and are happy to discuss corporate account arrangements for ongoing or multiple bookings.

How quickly can you accommodate a new arrival?

Often within a few days of confirming the booking, subject to availability. For urgent relocations, contact us directly and we'll prioritise finding a suitable option as quickly as possible.

What happens if the assignment is extended or cut short?

Our contracts have no fixed end date — just one calendar month's notice to terminate. If an assignment is extended, the contract simply continues. If it ends early, we require only the standard notice period.

Can the employee register their address for a BSN?

Yes. City Retreat operates registered serviced accommodation, meaning employees can register their Amsterdam address with the municipality from the start of their tenancy — essential for obtaining a BSN, opening a bank account and completing payroll registration.

Do you handle multiple bookings for the same company?

Yes — a significant share of our corporate clients book multiple apartments across the year, either for different team members or successive assignments. We can set up a corporate account arrangement to streamline booking and invoicing for repeat clients.

Does the employee need a Dutch employment contract to qualify?

No. Unlike private landlords in Amsterdam, we don't require Dutch payslips or a minimum salary multiple. This makes us particularly suitable for employees arriving ahead of their start date, on international contracts, or on project-based assignments.

Why is corporate housing especially important in Amsterdam right now?

Amsterdam's rental market is under sustained pressure: average rents reached €28.53/m² in Q1 2026 (up 5.1% year-on-year), and the Netherlands has a housing shortage of roughly 410,000 homes. That makes it increasingly difficult for new arrivals to secure a private rental quickly — which is exactly the gap corporate housing fills. See our analysis of how this is affecting recruitment for more detail.
